This print originated as a carefully orchestrated photograph by Tetsuya Niikura, created in collaboration with floral artist Masaaki Kawaguchi. Movement and light are cleverly evoked among surreal-looking florals, interpreted into an Art Nouveau layout of elegantly mirrored and entwined motifs.
AW21 From Japan With Love Collection
From Japan With Love was created by Liberty Fabrics in collaboration with eight contemporary Japanese artists. The collection’s contributors worked across a wide range of graphic, textile and fine art mediums, creating visually stunning artworks that were transformed into fabric layouts by our in-house London design team – each finished print reflects a different influential facet of Japanese art and design. Photographer Tetsuya Niikura studied oil painting before moving behind the camera – his still life works retain a hauntingly painterly quality. For these designs, he collaborated with the well-known flower artist Masaaki Kawaguchi.
