There are several designs in this style in the Liberty archive dating from the late 1920s and 1930s. Palmeira is based on one of these and it was redrawn to maintain a very fine line detail. An Eastern conversational, an important category in Liberty history, the design includes peacocks, birds and deer in a beautiful ornamental garden.
This version is printed on Liberty's Augusta Linen base, a wonderfully light and breezy cotton / linen base. Augusta Linen has a looser weave than Tana Lawn, and is the slightest bit sheer. We'd describe the hand feel as being crisp and smooth; it does not have the slubby touch of many cotton-linens. Augusta is a very fine linen suited for lightweight apparel and accessories. It would not be suitable for any home decor item or accessory that would need to be more hard-wearing.
Fabric measures 54" wide. Printed on Liberty's Augusta Linen Base (53% Linen, 48% Cotton; 112 gsm). Designed in the United Kingdom, printed in Italy.
